Employment in India (in the early 2000) - A call for a strong manufacturing sector and entrepreneurship!

This is a short blog concentrating on the employment figures of INDIA which has a foreseeable growth potential in the 21st century. It is apparent to feel that the role of governance is such a cornerstone in the making of a nation's history. At the time of writing this blog, its saddening to see the lost potential of this nation stuck in the hands of controversial politicians, flimsy laws and gullible populace.

In the first half of the first decade, 60 Million jobs were added. But despite strong economic growth, its quite astonishing to see no new jobs added between 2005 and 2012.

If at all, there is a chance to keep the momentum before the steam runs out, it is very essential to target the manufacturing sector. The role is not to burden urbanization. The rural parts and the villages are also vital and dominant. It is very essential to strategically bring development through job creation in these areas such that cities do not get overwhelmed. At last if all the people in the village think that cities are the place to make money, then this sort of development is unsustainable.

That's one part of the story. India is also producing graduates at an alarming rate faster than they can find jobs. What's also needed is more of entrepreneurs opening companies, creating jobs.

Finally, it's time to use the demography to advantage for the betterment of the nation and its people. Though that responsibility for progress is more in the hands of the government, people too can bring a difference.

As the saying goes "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed individuals can change the world. In fact, it's the only thing that ever has" -- Margarate Meade

  1. Frankly, I just do not know where I can make a start to comment meaningfully. At the outset I realize that the planet earth just cannot sustain continuous economic growth and expansion. There is tremendous pressure on India's resources like energy and water and fuel etc. such that it is almost impossible to create more industries and industrial output. We just do not have enough electricity or potential to generate it to feed industries if we create more industries. The natural resources in minerals like base metals, coal, petroleum and natural gas too do not seem to be adequate.

In the meantime more and more Indians are coming on earth. More and more Indians are becoming of employable age. Each of those Indians would need buckets of water for bathing, cooking, washing. Each of those Indians need electricity for his T.V., fan, fridge. Each of those Indians needs to be fed. The rural populace is migrating to cities and labor force for agricultural production is falling - you cannot blame the villager if he too wants to enjoy the good life that a city offers - less physical strain, greater entertainment opportunities. Cities are exploding. Groundwater resources are not being managed so that there is a clear and present danger that much of India will be ravaged with aridity.

I do not see much hope. Perhaps I may migrate to New Zealand!

    1. Thanks for the insights Deepak.
Yes you are right. Energy and natural resources are in danger and an ever increasing population is something which we have to watch out for! India with its gigantic population has more imminent problems. But I think it is the same everywhere in a few years. Human avarice is unable to be sufficient with Mother Nature's resources.
